About
The Argument is an independent space for extended writing by The Hurtch.
It grew out of @hurtch, where arguments, observations, disagreements, and positions are necessarily compressed by the format. This site is for what comes after: developing the claim, explaining the reasoning, examining the evidence, and dealing seriously with objections.
The subjects will vary. Politics, public policy, history, culture, institutions, philosophy, science, and other questions that are worth arguing about are all within scope.
The objective is state positions clearly enough that they can be examined, challenged, defended, refined, or abandoned.
A note on revision
An argument is not made stronger by pretending that it can never change. Posts may therefore be updated when new evidence emerges, factual errors are identified, or I substantially revise my position.
Where a change materially alters an argument, I will try to make that clear.
